Our physical roots, our grounding, connection & security to our life & the world.
Welcome to the first week of My Soul Summer where we are exploring...
The Root Chakra, Muladhara.
We have 7 chakra's in our energetic body, all located at different points within us & each focused on a different area of our life. There is no hierarchical order when it comes down to them, they are all equally in need of balance & importance to be in proportion but sometimes we may need to focus on some more than others if we are blocked in those areas. Here is a little visual of the 7 chakras:
Our Muladhara chakra (Root chakra) is the foundation on which we build. Our security, grounding & quite literally our roots are all located within this chakra - the earth & feet in which we stand. Our childhood, family life, beliefs, financial security & shelter.
This root chakra is physically located at the base of our spine & extends into the legs, feet, seat & digestive system. This is why when we travel we can have issues in the digestive area as our most basic needs are not entirely grounded. With this being the field of consciousness in which creates our security & most basic needs, we all have issues here in one way or another, whether that is something back in our childhood, maybe we get nervous when we have to borrow money or maybe there is an anxiety around the home we are currently living in. We don't even necessarily need to know what caused an imbalance in this area, it is how we deal with these stresses & insecurities that decipher how much they can internally impact & throw us off center.
.'...it's a matter of how deeply seated those issues are, and how they manifest emotionally, physically and psychologically.'
It is about simply acknowledging the blockages here & working towards unblocking them, whether that is through our asana practice (including the poses at the top of page), certain breathing techniques, implementing small life changes in these areas or even through the foods that we eat. Here is a list of some foods that are hearty & nutritious & ultimately compliment our root chakra well in needs of our survival & stability:
Root Vegetables: Beetroot (try our Pretty in Pink Overnight Oats recipe), Potatoes, Ginger, Parsnips, Carrots, Turnips, Turmeric, Kale (quick & easy recipe below!)
